Autumn training

Autumn here is glorious, no mosquitos and magnificent fall colours. Training starts on quad bikes and moves to sleighs once the snow is deep and the marshes frozen, so you may experience both. Early sleigh training is physical, you will need to be fairly athletic with decent stamina to enjoy it.

What you'll do

With your personal mentor you take charge of your own group of dogs, rotating them through conditioning, gee and haw and individual training. Leaders, trainee leaders, pups, 2nd season dogs, team and wheel dogs and seasoned veterans all have different needs, and you can dig as deep as you like into the planning, such as how we compile teams with computerised systems.

Course content

Modules are the same year-round, though the dog work changes with the season. Some run on every course (basic care routines, basic meds), others are chosen to suit the group. At the end of your first morning we sit down and shape the week around what you want from it.
