Arctic Bird-Watching & Nature Mornings

Arctic Bird-Watching & Nature Mornings

Guided bird-watching from farm hides, wilderness hides and local towers, plus combined nature mornings, in one of Finland's richest Arctic birding areas.

Many bird species pass through here, and the best watching runs from mid-May to the end of June, with arrival times shown in the seasonal table of Enontekio species.

  • Best window: mid-May to the end of June
  • Farm hides, a wilderness hide, or the Yrjo Kokko and Sotkajarvi towers
  • Birds of prey, owls, game birds, swans, cranes and Arctic vagrants
  • Whooper Swans, Finland's national bird, arrive late April / early May
  • Overnight base at the Palojoki Trappers' Cabin

Overnight Tours to Palojoki Cabin in Spring

Our Palojoki Trappers' Cabin, on the banks of the Palojoki River near the Tarvantovaara Wilderness area and the large Suonttajarvi lake, makes a very comfortable base in the heart of the wilderness. Reach it by snowmobile in spring or on foot in summer.

Wilderness Hide Transfer

In late April and early May we can shuttle you to our wilderness hide for the day, with Common Cranes and Whooper Swans nearly always found en route. Ask for a packed lunch, and we will either collect you at a pre-agreed time or send a bird expert along for the day.

Mornings at the Farm Hides in May and June

Bird-watching mornings run year-round outside our peak safari season, mostly in the small hides on the farm, though we are happy to move you mid-morning to the Yrjo Kokko or Sotkajarvi bird-watching tower.

Arctic Nature Mornings

Prefer variety? An Arctic nature morning combines bird-watching tuition with a walk among the season's berries, mushrooms, lichen and plants, plus farm time with the dogs. How you spend the morning is up to you.
