Kids Camp
A fun, hands-on morning or afternoon on the farm for children aged around 8 to 12, working with and learning about the dogs and the pups.
Kids Camp is a fun, interactive morning or afternoon on the farm for children aged around 8 to 12, working with and learning about the dogs and pups. What we do depends on the weather and the ages of dogs and children. Mainly a summer product, sometimes possible at other times, staff permitting.
- For children around 8 to 12 years old
- Free-runs with pups, walks, agility course and GEE HAW maze
- Learn dog care, help massage and train the gentle dogs
- Afternoon groups help with the evening feed
- Parents welcome to join in
What the children do
Children might join morning free-runs with the pups, slower walks with the older dogs, or, mosquitos permitting, training on the agility course, in the GEE HAW maze or on the kick bikes (older children). Each child learns how we assess the dogs' health every week and why continuing care matters, helping massage older dogs and do obedience training with the gentle ones.
Choosing the right dogs
None of our dogs bite, but some are calmer than others, and with c. 180 to choose from we can always find the right ones for a positive, affirming experience. Afternoon visitors can help prepare and give out the evening feed, as three or four local children do all summer.
Parents and languages
Parents are welcome to join in, which can also open the door to younger children. Kids Camp generally runs in English, with other languages possible for larger groups.
