Our core guide-training internship - one-on-one training, mentoring and modular competency targets, 3 months minimum, 4+ recommended.
There is no professional qualification in sleddog guiding, so we created our own diploma-style modular scheme with course options year-round: one-on-one training, then mentoring and self-continuation against specific targets within set timelines.

How long to stay
3 months is the minimum for anyone serious about sleddog guiding. We recommend 4 months +, long enough to find your feet and see a transition between seasons, each of which is unique. In the first month the investment flows from us to you. In the second you start to thrive. By the third you work independently on the basics and can teach others. By the fourth the season is turning, and you meet it with a sound core competency around the dogs.
Modular competency targets
The syllabus spans guiding (dog-sledding, snowmobile and safari guiding, wilderness navigation, client group management), dog skills (welfare, nutrition, handling, condition training), team-work (leadership, mentoring, staff training), business and marketing (lean project management, brochure design, website maintenance, book keeping) and seasonal outdoor capabilities (canoeing and kayaking, skiing and snowshoeing, Arctic bushcraft, safety and survival). Graduates leave as competent dog handlers, highly regarded in the industry.
What to expect
You will live and breathe huskies 24/7, and much of the work is repetitious. We deliberately push you to your limits, particularly in winter, because as former endurance athletes we believe the hardest things bring the most rewards. If satisfaction from a job well done, noticed or not, doesn't entice you a little, this isn't your internship.
