A two-day dog-mushing experience driving your own team c. 60-80km across Europe's most remote landscape, sleeping in a traditional farm kota or wilderness cabin.
Your 2-day mushing experience normally starts at 11am on the first day. We issue arctic kit and clothing, introduce you to the farm and dogs, and give detailed sleigh-driving instruction.
Then you learn to set up your own team: each dog's harness size, why the group was chosen for you, their characters, and where each runs in the line. Over two days you move seamlessly from open marshland to lake, river and forest glen, watching the changing light of the Arctic days.
Most 2-day safaris return to the homestead at night, and you sleep among the dogs in a traditional kota, a circular round-wood cabin with a central fireplace. It is a rare chance to join the evening routines of a working husky farm, feeding, brushing or walking retired dogs and pups.
For a surcharge we also run overnights at our wilderness location, usually Palojöki, a cluster of cabins on the edge of the remote Tarvantovaara Wilderness Area. Either way, expect a couple of dogs to join you for a cuddle at night.
On the morning of the 2nd day we get ready together, then explore new landscape. If you slept on the farm you wake to the morning howl and help prepare the dogs for their day. We aim to have you back at the farm around 4pm.
We choose between route options based on weather, temperature and how your schedule fits the rest of our bookings.
Real wilderness, 200+ huskies, eighteen winters in.
