Travel to Hetta from within Finland
How to reach Hetta (Enontekiö) through Finland by air, bus, subsidised shuttle, taxi, train or car - the easiest option for those relying on public transport.
Connecting through Finland is the easiest option on public transport, with straightforward train and bus links to Enontekiö from most regional airports. Kittilä is a short 2-hour shuttle away, Rovaniemi three hours with a bus that stops pretty much right outside our door.

By Air
Flights from Helsinki connect north via Finnair (Kittilä or Rovaniemi), SAS / Blue1 (Rovaniemi or Kittilä) or Norwegian.no (Rovaniemi). Kittilä is the closest larger commercial airport, Rovaniemi slightly further, with easy onward land connections year-round.
In December, charter flights reach Enontekiö almost daily (Thomson, Canterbury-Travel or Transun), and for December day-trips to Lapland we recommend Canterbury-Travel. Through the ski season Jet2, Flybe, Thomas Cook Airlines, Ski-flights.com and Thomson Airways fly to Kittilä, and Lufthansa flies in from Munich and Frankfurt.
By Bus / Subsidised Shuttle / Taxi
Fly into Enontekiö and private taxis wait for the 4km shuttle to Hetta, and we include pick-ups with our 5-day tours. The Rovaniemi bus (Matkahuolto) runs north to Hetta twice daily, calling at Kittilä, Kittilä airport, Levi, Muonio and Palojoensu.
The Kittilä airport to Enontekiö bus has cost c. €30 per person each way. Subsidised mini-bus taxis run Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at €35 per person, pre-booked with Elli-Marja Kultima of Kilpisjärven Taksi. We offer group transfers between KTT airport and Hetta at €120 per direction when we have capacity, and a private taxi costs c. €250 per direction.
By Train
Finland's rail company 'VR' is another way north from Helsinki or Tampere, with very modern trains, many with computer cars, allergenic cars and 2- or 3-person sleeping carriages with showers. From the trainheads at Kolari or Rovaniemi, Matkahuolto, Finland's national bus company, connects you through to Hetta.
By Car
Road signs within the municipality of Enontekiö can confuse, since Finnish signs name the municipality rather than the county town, so the turn towards Hetta at Palojoenso actually points towards Enontekiö. Driving here in winter, you need winter tyres (studs are not accepted), and we recommend an integrated pre-heating system, as most locals warm the oil in their cars for a couple of hours before use.
