The Classic 55 km Hetta-Pallas Ski Journey, Guided

The most popular route starting in Enontekiö is the 55-km Hetta-Pallas Trail through the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, established in 1934. We can arrange car transfers between the two ends (€65 per transfer) or, in Spring, guide the journey itself.

  • Best season: c. mid-March to end-April, when the trails are well maintained, though back-country skis extend the season either side
  • Route: the trail runs either way between Hetta Village and Pallastunturi Visitor Centre, or beyond to Olos or Ylläs
  • Huts: heading south from Hetta, the first open huts are at Pyhäkero, then Sioskuru, Hannukuru and Nammalakuru, each with open and bookable huts
  • Cafes and centres: wilderness cafes open periodically at Pyhäkero and c. 10 km from Pallas, and both Hetta and Pallas have nature centres with exhibits and films on the area

Näkkälä to Hetta via the Haunted Hut

For a first overnight ski journey we recommend a round trip from Hetta to the Sioskuru Huts, or a one-way journey to or from Näkkälä sleeping in the 'haunted hut' en route.

When the tracks are functional, follow the illuminated trail from Hetta and branch off just before the first big uphill at the signpost to Pahtajärvi / Näkkälä (take the one with the skier symbol). The bookable Sisanki cabin lies close by, with the snowmobile trail towards Näkkälä a few metres away. The open sleeping hut we recommend is c. 15 km from Hetta and is reputedly the most haunted hut in Finland.
