Our Farm and Cabins

Our Farm and Cabins

A tour of our farm at the western edge of Hetta - the main house, dog kitchen, kennels, kota area and wilderness cabins.

Ours is the last house to the west of Hetta village, so all the land to our west, with the backing of other owners and the Ministry of Forestry, is our immediate playground. The extension we built (pictured) is overflow space for guides, our dog medical area and where we first welcome multiday safari clients. Around the main house sit our heavily used workshop, dog kitchen, gear room and wood shed.

  • Set at the western edge of Hetta, with wilderness as the playground
  • Farm sited c. 200m from the farmhouse, with a winter-lit walk
  • Unique GEE-HAW training area en route to the farm
  • Dogs on 360-degree chains with shade trees and sunbathing roofs
  • Kota area with teepee, wooden kota and welfare signboards

The Walk to the Farm

The farm sits c. 200m from the farmhouse and dog kitchen, so any occasional escapee won't run straight onto the main road. The walk between the two is lit in winter, the cable dug in by hand, and full of wild flowers in summer, passing our fairly unique GEE-HAW training area en route.

Inside the Farm

Large gates with flaps on the bottom, to cope with changing snow levels, keep wild animals like reindeer, bear and wolves out and the dogs in. Inside, trails lead off to the puppy areas, and dogs live on chains with 360-degree motion, trees kept within the circles for summer shade and flat kennel roofs for spring sunbathing.

The Kota Area and Cabins

At the far end of the fenced farm is our kota area, with a fabric teepee, a wooden kota and signboards on huskies, dog health and welfare and our environmental baseline and targets. We also have a variety of cabins, used on safaris and rented out through the year. More images of these to come soon.
