The seven principles
1) Plan ahead and prepare. 2) Travel and camp on durable surfaces. 3) Dispose of waste properly. 4) Leave what you find. 5) Minimise campfire impact. 6) Respect wildlife. 7) Be considerate of other users.
The programme rests on attitude, awareness and ethics, doing the right thing whether or not anyone is watching, rather than on rules.
Route access and trail negotiation
Driving huskies falls under 'everyman's right' in Finnish law, the same access to trails and open huts as walkers, skiers and non-mechanised bikers, so we need no permits. Because local reindeer herders worry that huskies and reindeer cannot coexist, we still negotiate our routes and run only a small number of clearly defined trails each season, a long-term investment in trust and wider access.
Product planning and research links
Before any new product we weigh its impact on environment and community by scope, duration, group size and area covered. We encourage public transport, brief before every activity and invite feedback after it. Many local species are still unrecorded, so we plan a CAPE Lapland arm for youth and research expeditions to build baseline data for future generations.
