Summer in Arctic Enontekiö
Long midnight-sun days, farm visits and summer adventure - plus the high fells, hiking trails and reindeer culture of Enontekiö.
You are very welcome to visit our farm outside the mushing and training / transition seasons - there is always lots going on. It is genuinely important for the dogs' continuity of care that friendly strangers visit them through the year, so they don't become nervous around new people.

The midnight sun
The shoulders of summer in Lapland are glorious. Days are super long from June until September, and around mid-summer we enjoy c. 3-4 weeks of midnight sun, so hikers on the municipality's many wilderness trails never need to stop.
Mid-summer also brings out the pollinating insects so important to the Arctic ecosystem, less ideal for visitors but fascinating for culture: the flies drive the reindeer up onto the high fells, and you may be lucky enough to witness one of the remote gatherings where the Sami ear-mark their calves.
Weather and the wider region
Summer temperatures range between 5C and 25C, with c. 10-15C the norm. Rain is surprisingly scarce this far inland, arriving in short, heavy bursts when it comes.
Hetta draws independent motorists and coach tours, who visit the nature centre and reindeer nature trails before continuing towards Alta or the North Cape in Norway. Kilpisjärvi, in the western 'arm' of Enontekiö, attracts many summer hikers to its fairly unique high fells, the Arctic Trail alone drawing approx. 5,000-10,000 a year. Many cruise to the Three Countries Border Marker, climb the sacred Saana fell, explore Malla Nature Reserve, visit Siilastupa Information Point or take the region's nature trails.
