Staff Commitment

Staff Commitment

We select staff for what motivates them, support their chosen lifestyle, develop their potential and reward hard work.

We select staff and trainee guides for what motivates them and what they are passionate about, as well as current ability. The result is a talented team motivated to excel, and we support their chosen lifestyle, develop their potential and reward hard work.

  • Staff selected for motivation and passion, not just current ability
  • Each staff member is mentored and then trained to mentor others
  • Long-termers gain access to training budgets, trips and cultural outings
  • Alumni move on to leadership, guiding and outdoor retail roles across Europe
01

A supportive, process-driven team

The work environment is supportive and team-oriented, valuing input, drive, creativity and innovation as much as a strong work ethic and a positive 'can-try' attitude. Many daily processes must be done consistently for the animals' sake, so everyday tasks are process-driven with clear tasks and timelines, while in client season we culture flexibility, since change is a constant companion.

02

Mentoring and growth

Through experiential education and open feedback, each staff member is first mentored, then trained to mentor others. New staff have clear learning targets in hard skills (safari, climate, computer and dog-related) and soft skills (people and project management), with set timelines. The longer people stay, the more responsibility and independent projects they carry, and the greater their access to training budgets, staff trips and cultural outings.

Staff generally leave as rounder, more confident individuals, and our industry contacts have helped them into expeditionary leadership, guiding and outdoor retail roles across Europe.

  • Nurture integrity, personal as well as professional
  • Communicate, communicate, communicate
  • Get in the lead and stay there
  • Face the storm, it always looks worst from inside a tent
  • Be up front, tell the truth, never cover up
  • One step at a time, and never lower your goals
  • No-one is too new to contribute a good idea
  • Believe in yourself and trust your colleagues
